Participants will collaborate to solve challenges and navigate through the city’s iconic locations, engaging in fun activities that celebrate traditional crafts and arts.
Overview of The Amazing Race Hoi An
- Team Formation: Teams will be divided, with a maximum of 12 members each. Each team will be distinguished by the traditional Vietnamese “khăn rằn” scarves.
- Guide Support: Each team will be accompanied by an English-speaking escort to ensure safety and provide information about the history and culture of Hoi An throughout the journey.
- Technology Integration: Each team will be equipped with a mobile phone to scan QR codes at checkpoints. These QR codes will provide information about the next challenge, and teams can report results via the phone.
- Resources: Teams will receive a small amount of money to purchase items or use public transportation as needed.
- Challenges: Teams will face main challenges at checkpoints and additional side challenges to test creativity and teamwork.
- Scoring: The race is not judged solely on the time taken to complete the challenges. Instead, bonus points will be awarded based on specific criteria for each main and side challenge, affecting the overall ranking of the teams.

- Exploring Hoi An Through the Lens: Teams will creatively photograph iconic landmarks, street scenes, and traditional Ao Dai attire.
- Using Public Transportation: Teams will travel around the ancient town of Hoi An using various local transportation methods, such as cyclo rides and sampan trips along the river.
- Learning Local Slogans or Sayings: Teams will learn and practice a local slogan or saying during the journey and showcase it at the designated checkpoints.
- Making New Friends: Teams will be encouraged to meet and make friends with local residents (who are connected via Zalo).
Main Challenges
Checkpoint 1: Japanese Covered Bridge
- Task: Create a replica of the famous bridge using available materials and learn about its history.
- How to Complete: Teams collaborate to build an accurate mini-bridge and share the history of the Japanese Covered Bridge.
Checkpoint 2: Thanh Ha Pottery
- Task: Create a traditional pottery item at a local pottery workshop.
- How to Complete: Teams work together to craft a pottery piece using the foot-operated pottery wheel technique and showcase their creativity.
Checkpoint 3: Lantern Making
- Task: Learn how to make a traditional Hoi An lantern.
- How to Complete: Each team creates a colorful lantern and explains its significance at the next checkpoint.
Checkpoint 4: Kungfu Training
- Task: Participate in a basic Kungfu class with a local martial arts master.
- How to Complete: Teams practice a few Kungfu moves and demonstrate the skills they have learned.
