Soc Trang is a convergence of multi-ethnic cultures of Vietnamese, Khmer, and Chinese, especially the largest population of Khmer ethnic people with unique architectural works of ancient Khmer pagodas. You can visit Bat Pagoda, Kh’leang Pagoda, Som Rong Pagoda, Chen Kieu Pagoda (Sa Lon Pagoda), Ta Mon Pagoda, Prey Chop Pagoda, etc which are some of the 92 Khmer pagodas with many functions: places of worship ancestors, belief centre, the cultural centre of the community where village festivals took place.
Approximately 20km from Soc Trang, via ferry across Tran De River, you will reach Cu Lao Dung (Dung Island). This is a destination with fruit-laden orchards in all four seasons, vast sugarcane fields, straight shrimp squares, and mangrove forests on an island of more than 17,000 hectares. You will also be really surprised to know that one estuary of the Mekong River has been so silted up that it has disappeared from the map at Cu Lao Dung, that is Bassac estuary. With a mild, cool climate all year round, and cool breezes filled with fresh air, this is truly a peaceful land for those who want to “heal” in nature and are passionate about exploring the daily life of residents.
