Shares the western boundary of Ho Chi Minh City, Long An is a province located in the transition from the ancient alluvial plain of the Southeast to the new alluvial plain of the Southwest. Although no Mekong River runs through it, Long An is nourished by two other famous rivers, Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay, creating fertile farming lands for many crops of high economic value. Many low-lying areas are naturally flooded. “Mound” is a raised terrain that rises just a few meters above the flooded lowland and became the ideal residence for the first ancient residents to reclaim this land. They left behind many valuable cultural heritages at many prominent historical sites of the Oc Eo culture such as Go Chua (Kien Tuong), Binh Ta and An Son (Duc Hoa), Go Ba Canh (Tan Hung), Rach Nui (Can Giuoc), etc.
